Do It For Yourself

3 realisations:

  1. I second guess myself quite a bit and try to look at myself through others eyes. What do they think of me? What do they see? What can I do better?
  2. This is a part of human nature.
  3. This is exhausting. Doing everything for others is a difficult and ultimately unfulfilling way to live.

Most of us live for others. Think about it.

Go on, really think.

Do you get up and go to work or school everyday because you want to? Or is it because someone else wants you to? Your family? Someone else important to you? The government? Society? (I’m not saying you should you stop going to work or school. I’m saying you should think about why.)

Living for others is a tiring and depressing way to live. You second guess every step you take, questioning if that’s what others think you should do. But what about what you want to do? What happens when that is not the same thing?

I have found myself, more and more lately trying to please others.

This blog for example. Writing and posting here makes me happy, but I keep thinking about what you guys want me to post. That’s important to an extent. But I keep finding myself checking my blog stats too often for anything drastic to change. I compare days, I compare types of posts, I compare myself to other blogs. Everything. And that’s where I lose the enjoyment.

I am doing this for you, but I’m also doing this for me because it’s something I like doing.

So today, I encourage to think about this:

Are you doing this for yourself? Or are you doing this for others?

Do things for yourself. You’ll become more self-reliant and self-fulfilled.

And we all know happiness comes from the inside.

Never mind what others do; do better than yourself, beat your own record from day to day and you are a success

I hope you enjoyed it and maybe felt a little bit inspired

If not, I still hope you have a good day. πŸ™‚

I think that it’s important to live for yourself and not others. No matter how much we love someone, we are significantly important leading our own life. When you find your purpose and calling, that’s when the magic happens.

I think that I do a lot of things for myself but there are a lot of things that fall into that in between area that you describe where you are doing it for yourself and others. It’s ok that you are doing it for both but you should be careful not to end up only doing it for others and losing whatever joy you once found in the thing. The only way that we can do that is by asking the very question that you have ask us today. At least ever so often a person should ask themselves this question so that they are able to contously keep their enjoyment in the thing that they are doing as well.
Thank you for such an excellent post.

Good post!!! For me, I don’t simply go at school, because I think it’s waste of time (in my country, it is trust me) maybe you are doing some things, because it seems that you don’t have any choice? (but it’s illusion of course, for example school. You can get much better education by yourself) Just… life isn’t a straight life or routine to follow it.
