Book: Glass Houses (Morganville Vampires #1), by Rachel Caine

Published: October 3rd 2006

Genre: Young Adult, Paranormal, Vampire, Urban Fantasy, Romance

Page Count: 239

Goodreads Rating: 3.93

IMG_1044.jpg

Synopsis (from Goodreads):

From the author of the popular Weather Warden series comes the debut of an exciting new series set in Morganville, Texas, where you would be well advised to avoid being out after dark.

College freshman, Claire Danvers, has had enough of the nightmarish dorm situation. When Claire heads off-campus, the imposing old house where she finds a room may not be much better. Her new roommates don’t show many signs of life, but they’ll have Claire’s back when the town’s deepest secrets come crawling out, hungry for fresh blood. Will she be able to face the town’s terror, or will she drown like everyone else?

Characters:

Claire Danvers is sixteen and a freshman in the college town of Morganville, Texas. She is supposedly too smart for her own good, but honestly, if she were half as smart as she thinks she is, she would be twice as smart as she is. If she had any logical thoughts, she wouldn’t have gotten herself into so many ridiculous and dangerous situations. Claire is a little bit annoying and well, she isn’t very original (in my opinion), but at the same time… I kind of loved her and related to her. Maybe that’s why she annoyed me..? 😂

Eve is fully Goth and also lives in the Glass House. I also found her a little annoying. So really, the only reason I was reading this book was for the guys. 😍 Oml, in my mind they are so gorgeous and 😋. Is that weird? Heck, maybe I’m weird. What are you gonna do?

Shane is a total hottie and though he is a bit of a hothead, he is a real sweetie so far. And he’s so cute with Claire. Michael… Michael, is beautiful and just completely perfect and *dramatic sigh*. Well except for that one thing (SPOILER) where his is a ghost and can’t leave the house and can only appear as a human after sunset. (SPOILER OVER). Otherwise, he is totally beautiful and Eve should just propose now so she doesn’t lose him. Michael is totally book boyfriend material and is so protective and caring. I just love him a lot, okay? Don’t judge. 💁😊

Plot:

In this book, Claire accidentally messes with some people she shouldn’t and gets into trouble and then they all nearly die a few times. Fun! Basically in Morganville you can be Protected by one of the vampires, which means you are their property and none of the other vampires can hurt you. There are obviously pros and cons to this. Claire is new to town and is unprotected and so are all of her friends, which puts them in a lot of danger even if they stay indoors at night time.

I loved the story of this book. There is something about vampires and books about them, that just gets me every single time. I just find vampire novels addictive! I can’t work out exactly what it is that I love about them. I’ll let you know if I work it out. 😉 I just loved it.

One problem that I had with this book was that the girls were portrayed as weak and dependant on the guys to rescue them. It was annoying and pathetic, but that seems to be how all girls in vampire novels are… 😏

square copy.png

Writing Style:

The book is written in third person, mostly following Claire and her friends near death experiences. I’ve never read a books by Rachel Caine, but I’m already up to the third book in this series, so she’s definitely doing something right! I feel like there are some gaps in the story. Just small details though, but it was frustrating me. I’m not sure how to explain it, but I assume everything will become clear as I continue to read the series.

square copy.png

Conclusion:

I really enjoyed this book and plan to continue this series until I’m finished (though there are 15 books so it may take a while) or until I’m bored with it. I didn’t like the two female leads, they were annoying and my inner feminist was shouting at them. The guys however were complete hotties and potential new book boyfriends. They are still pending review. As I said, I love books about vampires for some strange reason that I can’t exactly pinpoint. I’m loving this series so far and would definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested. Especially if you are a fan of Twilight, I almost guarantee you’ll love this.

Rating:

4/5 Stars

Oh, before I go. Meet Tinker. IMG_1025.jpg

He is one of my foster kitten babies and he was trying to steal the show yesterday when I was taking pics for my December Book Haul. I was going to add this in that post, but I forgot so I thought I’d do it today. He’s such a cutie. 😍😊

Alright, good night/good day to ya’ll. See you next time. 😘

Book Review: The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud

Hiya. How are we?

I’m sorry I haven’t posted in a while, I’ve been trying to work out how I feel about this book for about a week. Haha. I hope you enjoy what I’ve come up with. 🙂

Book: The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud, by Ben Sherwood

Published: 2004

Genre: Fiction, Romance, Fantasy, Paranormal, Young Adult

Page Count: 273

Goodreads Rating: 4

IMG_0947.jpg

Synopsis (from Goodreads):

The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud tells the haunting story of a young man who narrowly survives a terrible car wreck that kills his little brother. Years later, the brothers’ bond remains so strong that is transcends the normal boundaries separating life and death. Charlie St. Cloud lives in a snug new England fishing village. By day he tends the lawn and monuments of the ancient cemetery where his younger brother, Sam, is buried. Graced with an extraordinary gift after surviving the accident, he can still see, talk and even play catch with Sam’s spirit. But townsfolk whisper that Charlie has never recovered from his loss.

Into his carefully ordered life comes Tess Carroll, a captivating, adventurous woman training for a solo sailing trip around the globe. Fate steers her boat into a treacherous storm that blows her back to harbour, to a charged encounter with Charlie, and to a surprise more overwhelming than the violent sea itself. Charlie and Tess discover a beautiful and uncommon connection that leads to a race against time and a desperate choice between death and life, between the past and the future, between holding on and letting go.

Luminous, soulful, and filled with unforgettable characters, The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud is one of those rare, wise books that reveal the mysteries of the unseen world around us, gently transforming the worst pain of loss into hope, healing, and even laughter. Suspenseful and deeply moving, its startling climax reminds us that sometimes tragedies can bring about miracles if we simply open our hearts.

Characters:

The main characters of this book are Charlie St. Cloud, Sam St. Cloud and Tess Carroll. Charlie was the most promising boy his age until his brother, Sam, died in a car crash that was partly his fault. Charlie is thought to have never recovered from his guilt, though in reality he made a promise to Sam and he keeps that promise to him every day. Charlie is charming and caring and above all, loyal to his brother Sam. Sam is mischievous and funny. I found their relationship to be heartwarming and heartbreaking, simultaneously. Then Tess came into the picture and threatened their promise. I like Tess as a character, she was so vibrant and full of life, though at times an unnecessary risk taker.

I didn’t really connect with these characters, if I’m honest. They just seemed half-sketched to me, or like they weren’t fully formed yet. I’m not sure if this makes any sense. I liked them, but they weren’t memorable.

Screen Shot 2015-12-19 at 2.29.02 PM.png

Plot:

The plot idea of this story is brilliant. The idea that Charlie could still interact with his brother is something that I found really interesting. I also loved how the author explained the ‘in-between stage’, between life and death. It was intriguing. I  did see a lot of the plot coming ahead of time, but I think that was mostly because I have seen the movie (Zac Effron 😍) Overall the plot was haunting, intriguing and really beautiful. The story was well-paced and the romance was… wow. At first it seemed a little bit like instalove, but it grew on me and I so badly wanted everything to work out for them.

Screen Shot 2015-12-19 at 2.31.00 PM.png

Writing Style:

I have never read a book from Ben Sherwood and honestly I had never heard of him before reading this book. The book is written in third person for the most part, except for the introduction and the afterword, which is written from the first person point of view of the fireman who saved Charlie’s life. I liked how the story was written, but something about it left me feeling unfulfilled.

Screen Shot 2015-12-19 at 2.32.07 PM.png

Conclusion:

I liked most things about this book, but overall I was left with something to be desired. I can’t quite work out exactly what was wrong. I think it was just that is was too fast and short. It got to the point of the story straight away and I didn’t have a chance to learn about the characters and care for them. It was good, but it could have been better. The idea was brilliant, but I just didn’t like how it was executed.

Rating:

3.5/5

Top Ten New-to-Me Favourite Authors I Read For the First Time in 2015

Hey y’all.

I haven’t done a Top Ten Tuesday post in ages! Mostly because I didn’t know how to answer some of the topics, but this one I can definitely do.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly link-up event/meme/thingy hosted by the lovely human beings over a The Broke and the Bookish (please do yourself a favour and check them out, if for some reason you haven’t all ready.) This weeks topic is Top Ten Favourite Authors that are new to me in 2015, which shouldn’t be too difficult for me, because I kind of started professionally reading this year (and I had a lot to catch up on.)

To the list…

  1. Rick Riordan: Please don’t hurt me. I have no idea why I took so long to actually read his books. They are totally amazing and perfection and I’m going to stop before the real fangirling starts. I’ve read both the Percy Jackson series and the Heroes of Olympus series from him, with plans to check out his other books.
  2. Cassandra Clare: Same with this one. Why did I wait? Why? I honestly don’t know, but I’m here now and I am on the train. I’m also practically counting down the days until Lady Midnight comes out. Is that wrong? (No need to answer that if the answer is yes.)
  3. Gayle Foreman: I have read If I Stay and Where She Went and they were both amazing. So I definitely need to branch out further.
  4. Stephen Chbosky: The Perks of Being a Wallflower is now one of my all-time favourites. This book really means a lot to me.
  5. David Levithan: I’m not sure if this counts because I’ve only read his collab with John Green, but I loved it so much and need to read more from him.
  6. Nicola Yoon: I know she was a debut author this year, but I adored Everything, Everything and can’t wait to see more from her.
  7. Danielle Paige: This is not necessarily a favourite, but I’m running out of people. I’m not completely sold on her yet, because I didn’t love Dorothy Must Die, but I’m still going to give The Wicked Will Rise a chance, before I make my final decision.
  8. Nicholas Sparks: He’s not necessarily a favourite because he tends to cause a lot of emotional trauma, but I have really enjoyed both The Notebook and The Longest Ride.
  9. Zoe Sugg: I loved Zoe’s first book Girl Online and just bought the sequel on the weekend. Can’t wait to read it!
  10. Ned Vizzini: I read It’s Kind of a Funny Story and I enjoyed it as much as you can enjoy a book about depression. I haven’t heard much about his other books and I’m not sure if I ever will look into them, but I definitely enjoyed this one.

There you go. I hope you enjoyed my list! Have we got any in common?

Feel free to comment a link to your Top Ten Tuesday so that I’ll be sure to check it out. 🙂

Luv ya,

Ellie ❤

The TBR Book Tag

Heya 🙂

I was recently nominated to do the TBR Book Tag by Jess @ The Mud and Stars Book Blog. Thank you very much for the nomination, I’m really excited to do this. 😊

Let’s get straight to it…

How do you keep track of your TBR pile?

Well, as of this morning it was totally all over the place. I had a bunch of sticky notes on my desktop with random names of books. I also had a list in a random notebook, which was similar. And also plenty stored in my head. But, since I finished school yesterday and had nothing of importance to do, I decided to join all of those lists and make a TBR jar! It was super fun and I can’t wait to use it!

Is your TBR mostly print or e-book?

Mostly print, I prefer to have and to hold my preciouses.

How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?

I usually decide what to read, depending on my mood or what genre I feel like. Lately, it’s contemporary. I also hope to use my new TBR jar in the future.

A book that’s been on your TBR the longest?

I think it would be The Tomorrow series, by John Marsden. I’ve read Tomorrow When the War Began and The Dead of the Night, but I just haven’t been able to commit to the whole series yet. I definitely do plan to though.

9780330356688.jpg

A book you recently added to your TBR?

That would be Illuminae, by Amie Kaufman. There has just been so much hype for it and even though I’m not the biggest Sci-fi fan, I’m keen to give it a go. Every review I’ve read of this book has been so positive.

9781780748375_0.jpg

A book on your TBR strictly because of its beautiful cover?

Personally, I choose books mostly based on the synopsis or its recommendations. But if I had to choose one book, that I want to read partly because of its cover,  it would be Shatter Me, by Tahereh Mafi. I just think this cover is so gorgeous.

Shatter me new eye co#1A459.jpg

A book on your TBR you never plan on reading?

Honestly I can’t think of any. I plan to read every book ever though, so… Hahaha.

An unpublished book on your TBR your excited for?

Can I have three? I can’t choose, which one I’m most excited for…

  • Trials of Apollo: The Hidden Oracle, by Rick Riordan (cover not yet revealed)
  • My Best Friend is a Goddess, by Tara Eglington
  • The Dark Artifices: Lady Midnight, by Cassandra Clare

Lady-Midnight-cover-GalleyCat.jpg

A book on your TBR that everyone has read but you?

It seems like everyone has read Throne of Glass, by Sarah J. Maas, but me. I feel so left out and behind. It’s tragic.

98446c2e48dd4f034cda527e31351e97.jpg

A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you?

Everyone recommends A Court of Thorns and Roses to me. I really should just read a Sarah J. Maas book, shouldn’t I?

9781408857861.jpg

A book on your TBR that you’re dying to read?

I really, really want to read Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda!! I’m not sure why exactly, but Carry On has started me loving LGBT fiction. Everyone seems to love this book and I just really want to read it.

19547856.jpg

How many books are in your Goodreads TBR shelf?

That is a good question. Problem is, I don’t have Goodreads… yet. I plan to change that soon. When making my TBR jar this afternoon I counted 66 books, not including sequels and series. So yeah, a few.

Book Review – Will Grayson, Will Grayson

Hi friends 🙂

Here is a book review for you. Hope you enjoy.

Book: Will Grayson, Will Grayson, by John Green and David Levithan

Published: 6th April, 2010

Genre: Young Adult Fiction, Contemporary

Page Count: 310

Goodreads Rating: 3.9

IMG_0559

Synopsis (from Goodreads)

Will Grayson meets Will Grayson. One cold night, in a most unlikely corner of Chicago, two strangers are about to cross paths. From that moment on, their world will collide and lives intertwine.

It’s not that far from Evanston to Naperville, but Chicago suburbanites Will Grayson and Will Grayson might as well live on different planets. When fate delivers them both to the same surprising crossroads, the Will Graysons find their lives overlapping and hurtling in new and unexpected directions. With a push from friends new and old – including the massive and massively fabulous, Tiny Cooper, offensive lineman and musical theatre auteur extraordinare – Will and Will begin building towards respective romantic turns-of-heart and the epic production of history’s most awesome high school musical.

Characters:

Will Grayson #1 (John Green’s Will Grayson) is a classic John Green character. He’s nerdy and quiet and a little awkward and he falls for the slightly pretentious, pretty and smart girl, who seems out of his league. He was two rules that he lives by, 1. Don’t care too much and 2. Shut up. I found this philosophy intriguing and depressively accurate and relatable. I did wonder how and when he came to the conclusion that this was a good way to live and I was a bit disappointed when we didn’t get a back story on it. However, the character development was brilliant and he was a funny a clever character.

Will Grayson #2 (David Levithan’s Will Grayson) is depressed, dark and looking for love in his Internet friend, Isaac. I LOVED this character. He was so raw and realistic. I know this doesn’t seem to be a popular opinion, but I always wanted to know more about this character and hear more of his dark sarcasm. Will Grayson # 2 was the highlight of the book for me.

Another of the important characters was Tiny Cooper. He was pretty damn fabulous and totally loveable. In a way, the story kind of revolves around Tiny and everyone’s reactions to him.

I can definitely understand why some people did not like these characters and found them tedious or annoying, but I personally loved parts of every one of them and enjoyed this story through their voices.

Screen Shot 2015-11-21 at 9.40.15 PM.png

Plot:

The plot of this book mainly revolves around Tiny Cooper and his musical ‘Tiny Dancer.‘ Mostly just Tiny Cooper. Will and Will are brought together by him, in a way.

The plot was fairly slow-paced, but I didn’t mind it. I constantly found myself interested and intrigued. The main point of the book, I think, is the character development of the two Will Graysons, which was brilliant. The character development, I mean.

This book covers has elements of both same sex romance and straight romance, which I loved. I’ve been really interested in reading more LGBT books lately, so I was definitely satisfied. This also covered the issue of depression, which is something close to my heart, and though its confronting and/or confusing for a lot of people, it’s important to understand.

One thing I really loved about this book, was the lack of overused plot tropes and cliches. I kept guessing what would happen, based on stereotypes and cliches, but I constantly found myself surprised with how the story turned out. I was exciting. And refreshing and different.

Also, I loved the ending. It was perfect. I will say no more.

Other than the fact that it was a little slow and not at all what I expected, I really liked it and would definitely read it again.

Screen Shot 2015-11-21 at 9.44.58 PM.png

Writing Style:

Of the reviews I’ve read of this book, I hear a lot of people saying that all John Green’s characters are very similar and maybe they are. But I still love them and I still love all of his writing. His writing is so clever and funny and honestly, I’ll read anything he writes.

Then there is David Levithan. I have never read another book by David Levithan, but I think I am going to have to. I LOVED his character, his realness and honesty. Do you guys have any suggestions?

Screen Shot 2015-11-21 at 9.47.53 PM.png

Conclusion:

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were gorgeous and honest and relatable. The story may have been a little slow-paced and I had a few unanswered questions at the end. But other than that, I loved it and would highly recommend!

4.5 stars

Book Review – Everything, Everything

Hey guys,

How are you? I genuinely want to know 🙂

Well, today I have a book review for you. I recently bought and read Everything Everything, by Nicola Yoon, after hearing all the hype about it. Honestly, it didn’t disappoint.

Book: Everything, Everything, by Nicola Yoon

Published: September 1st 2015

Genre: Young Adult, Romance, Contemporary

Page Count: 320

Goodreads Rating: 4.02

IMG_0636

Synopsis (From Goodreads)

My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mum and my nurse Carla.

But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black – black t-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly.

Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster.

Characters:

Maddy is a girl with SCID (Severe Combined Immunodeficiency), which means she can’t leave her house without getting sick. So she lives in her own clean bubble world. I liked Maddy as a character. I loved how her character developed throughout the book. She never knew she needed freedom and love and the world, until she almost had it. I didn’t really relate to her as a character (except for the appreciation of books), but I found her voice strong, hopeful and quite witty. She had this gorgeous optimism about everything that was really refreshing. Maddy isn’t my favourite character ever, but it was enjoyable to read about her.

Olly was gorgeous and I have a bit of a crush on him. He was a very interesting character with his theories and his pessimism about most things. I loved him. He also had this slight vulnerability, which was kind of endearing. His devotion to Maddy was both beautiful and tragic. I really enjoyed reading about Olly.

Screen Shot 2015-11-14 at 4.19.29 PM

Plot:

I loved the idea of this story. SCID is something that I’m personally quite interested in. I actually did a report on it for Advanced Science a few months ago, so I already knew quite a bit about the disease. I found the overall plot and story interesting and it really was a joy to read. I had a few issues, however. I did not like the insta-love. I just didn’t have enough time to work out what I thought of it or to truly root for them. It just felt rushed and too quick for me to become invested in it, if that makes sense.

I did grow to love their relationship as the story went on and got to know each other better. It made me smile a bit. The actual plot and pace of the story was perfect, in my opinion. I wanted to keep reading it and didn’t want it to finish.

Oh, and the infamous plot twist. I managed to keep away from spoilers before reading this and wasn’t really prepared for it. Trust me though, it’s mostly a good one and completely changes the outcome of the story. Honestly, I did guess that it was going to happen, beforehand, but it wasn’t really obvious. To me, this plot twist did kind of seem like an afterthought, but I think it might have been just me. Overall, I loved the story and there were some beautiful, deep and meaningful, thought-provoking parts.

Screen Shot 2015-11-14 at 4.26.16 PM

Writing Style:

I thoroughly enjoyed how this story was told thought Maddy’s POV and other documents, media and images. It made the story so much more 3-dimensional. I loved reading Maddy and Olly’s IMs, that was a lot of fun.  The images were beautiful and it really was a complete joy to read.

Screen Shot 2015-11-14 at 4.35.16 PM

Conclusion:

The book was beautiful. It was funny, witty and surprisingly meaningful. I had a few problems with the plot, but aside from that I really enjoyed it. It has a bit of a The Fault in Our Stars feel to it (though this one has a slightly better ending, in my opinion.) I would highly recommend this this to anyone who is interested in Young Adult, Contemporary or Romance.

My Rating: 4 stars

What were you thoughts on this book? Have you read it yet? Do you plan to?

Book Review – Carry On: The Rise and Fall of Simon Snow

Book: Carry On: The Rise and Fall of Simon Snow

Author: Rainbow Rowell

Published: 6 October 2015

Genre: Young adult, Romance, Mystery, Adventure, Perfection 😉

Rating: 500000/5 (or 5/5 if you’re picky)

Blurb:

Simon Snow is the worst chosen one who’s ever been chosen.

That’s what his roommate, Baz, says. And Baz might be evil and a vampire and a complete git, but he’s probably right.

Half the time Simon can’t even make his wand work, and the other half, he sets something on fire. His mentor’s avoiding him, his girlfriend broke up with him, and there’s a magic-eating monster running around wearing Simon’s face. Baz would be having a field day with all this, if he were here – it’s their last year at the Watford School of Magicks, and Simon’s infuriating nemesis didn’t even bother to show up.

Carry On: The Rise and Fall of Simon Snow is a ghost story, a love story, and a mystery. It had just as much kissing and talking as you’d expect from a Rainbow Rowell story – but far, far more monsters.

WARNING: This review may contain excessive fangirling. Read at own risk.

Oh my goodness. Oh my goodness. I’ve finally read this. I’m so happy right now.

This books finally ended up in my letterbox on Monday. Finally. Seriously, I pre-ordered it, shouldn’t it have come sooner? Is it just me?

Anyway, I better get started.

Things I love:

This is now potentially my favourite book ever. It is definitely the best book I’ve read this year. And I’ve read a lot of amazing books this year. Every book I read from now on, will just be in the shadow of the utter and total perfection of this book. I don’t know how to move on from this. Help me.

I was looking forward to reading this with every fibre of my being and I had freaking high expectations. (I didn’t mean to, but it’s Rainbow. When has she not delivered?) I was not disappointed in the slightest. This exceeded my expectations and I’m really struggling to put my love for this book into words. Can you tell? (You don’t need to answer that…)

I mean, it’s a fictional fan-fiction of a fictional book from a fictional book. I have never read anything like this, but it was so amazing.

I was a little worried before reading this that it would too much like Harry Potter or every other Chosen One story ever. But you can rest assured that it is completely and totally different. It is brilliance in it’s own way.

I just could not keep my eyes off this book. I read it in two days, during the school week. I read on the bus, during class (shh), during lunch breaks (yes, I am that kid), and then all night ignoring the ever-growing pile of homework. It was bliss.

The cover. SO beautiful. When I wasn’t reading, I was thinking about reading. When I was thinking about reading I was staring at the cover. It is gorgeous and completely captures the emotion of this book.

The POV’s were great. Though at times I just wanted to read about Simon and Baz, because duh.

I love Simon and Baz so much. I was screaming. And arm flapping. And giggling. (Do you think I’m insane yet?) I wish this book never ended. I would read all of the books of them just, you know, being happy. Making toast and drinking tea and going to college and kissing. That would be beautiful.

Things I loved slightly less:

I did not like Agatha, she pissed me off.

I kind of wish there was more kissing…

Pacing: To be honest, not a lot happened in the story, but emotionally it was a freaking roller coaster.

Writing Style: It is Rainbow Rowell. The writing style is obviously brilliant. If you haven’t read a Rainbow Rowell book yet, please at least read one. She is my favourite author and I just can’t think of the words. Asdgljhdiotnjju

Characters: I loved and hated parts of all of the characters, which is how it should be, I think.

Plot: Not a lot of events occurred, really, but emotionally the book was fabulous. The plot twists and turns, were mostly unpredictable, though I guessed a few of them. (Guessed, being the key word.)

To conclude, this book is my favourite so far this year and one of my favourites ever. I never wanted it to end and that just reaffirmed my total trust in Rainbow, to just be completely brilliant. Everything about this book made me happy and made me fangirl… like a lot. I would recommend this to anyone who hasn’t read a Rainbow Rowell book yet. If you ever even considered Drarry (Draco and Harry) being a thing (You know you did), you will love this. If you have ever loved a Chosen One story, this is for you. If you are a human then you should just read this. 🙂

Have you read this yet? What did you think? Have you reviewed it yet? Comment the link if you have, I would love to see your thoughts!

Hey, hey.

So the layout for this review is a little bit different to usual. Let me know what you think of that if you like. 🙂

Also, I”m really sorry I’m such a terrible blogger. One week I write one post and the next I post every day. And today, I post twice. I’m really sorry about the irregularity and I hope that I’ll eventually find a routine. I’m still pretty new to this. I also have like 5 books that I’ve read that I haven’t reviewed yet, so I will be trying to catch those up.

Also, I have a couple of tags and awards that I need to do and hope to soon. And I suck at regularly reading all your posts. So, I’m really sorry about that. I’ll try to keep up, but if there is anything you particular want me to see, feel free to comment and link to them. I would not mind at all. 🙂

Okay, I better go back to that homework I’ve been avoiding. See you later 😛

Love you lots,

Ellie ❤

It’s not every day you find yourself in combat with a half-lion, half-human.

But when you’re the son of a Greek god, it happens. And now my friend Annabeth is missing, a goddess is in chains and only five half-blood heroes can join the quest to defeat the doomsday monster.

Oh and guess what. The Oracle has predicted that not all of us will survive…

Oh my gods, guys, I’m currently reading The Mark of Athena and I haven’t even written this book review yet. I seriously need to get my act together. I’m so behind. Anyway, I hope you like this. 🙂

Pros

  • I really like Thalia as a character. She’s so tough and though she’s a little defensive, I really like her and how her character develops throughout the book.
  • Percy’s commentary… No matter how tense or life-threatening the situation may be, he still has something stupid and Seaweed brain-ish to say. And that is why we love him.
  • Holy Hera, Apollo’s poetry sucks. But it’s really funny for some reason.
  • Baby Nico with his Mythomagic cards and figurines and his questions. If only he knew…  *steps into shadows cryptically*
  • They have a dam problem. 😂
  • The chapter titles are brilliant as always and I’m going to seriously miss them in Heroes of Olympus.
  • I like that Percy learns some lessons in this book and makes some mistakes. Even just to prove that he is actually human.
  • Percy being so worried for Annabeth and not even realising why. asdfghjkl; Percabeth is almost real.
  • Now for the serious stuff. Rick Riordan is a wizard as always and his writing style is so fun and easy to read. I truly think someone of any age could read this book and enjoy it. The book is paced brilliantly and it is literally impossible to get bored in the process of reading this book. The characters are so gorgeous and I wish they were my friends in real life (mostly because they’re all badass and would protect me from monsters, but that’s not the point.) Rick makes learning about Greek Mythology fun and almost realistic. I now have an obsession with Greek mythology that may be considered unnatural, but oh well.tumblr_mus2np732Q1qfrrfso1_500

Cons

  • As always with these books I find them really difficult to fault, because they are so brilliant and perfect. But some things I didn’t love (all of them being what the characters did and I understand they were necessary) include
  • Annabeth was missing for pretty much the whole book and I really missed her being able to kind of balance Percy out.
  • Luke is a tool.

tumblr_mdwtikbb3f1rylxyvo1_500To sum it up. This review is quite similar to my previous reviews on Percy Jackson books, in that it is really hard to think of things that I don’t like about it. I just love these books okay? The author is amazing and has made me develop a crazy obsession with Greek mythology. The characters, plot, pacing and writing style are all perfection and it’s just… Sooo good. I can’t think of a word to accurately explain how I feel about the perfection of these books.

You should read this if you are a human.

Hahaha, I’m serious.

Just do it.

Anyway… I’m going to try really hard to catch up on these reviews and get my priorities straight.

I hope you are having a lovely day. 🙂

XO Ellie ❤
